Barbara Mastroianni, Contemporary Inlaid Demi-lune Cabinet with Palm Leaf Motif
Barbara Mastroianni (Italian, 1951-2018). Exceptional piece with great history. Contemporary demi-lune form cabinet inlaid with designs of palm fronds on a ground of wood inlays of various exotic types. Interior having black painted finish with two removable shelves. No labels or apparent signature. Provenance: Collection of academy award winning film production designer Dante Ferretti & Francesca Lo Schiavo, (Casino, Gangs of New York, etc).
Mastroianni was the daughter of noted actor Marcello Mastroianni (La Dolce Vita, La Notte and Divorce Italian Style), and his first wife, Flora. Mastroianni. She collaborated with directors including Federico Fellini (And the Ship Sails On), Elio Petri (Buone Notizie), Ettore Scola (That Night in Varennes) and Mauro Bolognini (The Inheritance). She later became a wood artist, crafting original furniture which was exhibited in italy and abroad. This cabinet was one of the works selected for an exhibition in paris attended by the artist and her famous actor father. There are numerous pictures online of her and her father with this piece at the exhibition opening.
